Happy first birthday to us! It has been a whirlwind the last twelve months! I cannot believe it is officially one year since the beginning of Home Away From Home K9 Care. When I decided to venture out on my own, I wanted to find a way to combine my love for animals and my growing family. I never expected that it would be such a great journey of fun, hard work and a ton of learning. As I look over my photos of the past year of all the dogs (I have hundreds), l can't help but reminisce on the journey. The things I enjoy the most. I enjoy seeing all these dogs from different families, different lives come together in my home and became part of our pack during their stay. No matter if they are playing for the day, sleeping over or training for a short time we are one family. I enjoy talking with their owners, sending pictures and updates and getting the sense that they know their dogs are being loved and cared for while they are away. I enjoy our conversations over the fence at drop-off. I enjoy crawling around on the ground to get that perfect shot of the dogs at play and at rest. I enjoy conversations about the progress of the dogs and helping owners problem solve as the dogs throw us behavioral curve balls. I enjoy knowing that I have a positive impact on the lives and the relationships between dog and owner. This line of business is very special because you are not only dealing with animals, but you are dealing with animals that are someones family member. I really take that to heart. I have had so much support from friends, family and clients along the way. Especially my loving husband who never really knew what he was signing up for but has been my biggest and loudest supporter. My son Ethan who is the best fetch partner in the business and like to tell everyone "we have lots of dogs". And of course Emma who is by far is our hardest worker, helping the dogs be comfortable in her home and just going with the flow with all the new personalities she come across. Yes, it has been a fantastic year and when I think ahead to our second year I just start to smile.
